Orange Film Society Inc. is a self-supporting and non-profit organisation dedicated to the appreciation of film culture.
The objective of Orange Film Society is to foster enthusiasm for the art of cinema and its role as a vehicle for entertainment, information, and education. We curate a diverse selection of cultural films for our program, including arthouse and foreign language films. Our goal is to introduce our members to cinematic experiences they might not otherwise have access to in their local area, thus enriching our program with a wide range of offerings.
2024 will be our 39th season.
Our Story
It all began when a group of individuals recognised a lack of exposure to film culture in Orange. This realisation led to the establishment of Orange Film Society. Initially, we held monthly screenings of 16mm films in the west room of the Civic Theatre, attracting around 20 attendees for each session. Encouraged by the success of our inaugural screening, we began featuring a different movie genre each month. Over the years, we expanded our venue selection, incorporating one or two films annually at the now-closed Australia Cinema, which resonated well with our members. Eventually, we made the decision to exclusively screen all our films at the cinema, with our permanent home now being the Odeon 5 Cinemas.
The Commitee
The Orange Film Society Inc. committee comprises approximately ten individuals responsible for overseeing the society's operations. This dedicated group is tasked with curating the film selection for the cinema. Membership on the committee is open to anyone interested. Committee members are nominated during our Annual General Meeting, and they convene for regular meetings on the first Tuesday of most months.
Our Annual General Meeting
Annually, Orange Film Society hosts its General Meeting, and while the location and timing may change, it often coincides with one of our film screenings, typically in October. This meeting is open to all, and it serves as the platform for nominating the committee members and assigning specific roles within the committee, including positions like President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
